Building Ballpoint — Guidance from Aaron Ball’s “Mentors Made the Difference”

Ann Kelly
Hi there, it’s Aaron Ball, CEO of Ballpoint Communications Group. I want to take a moment to share with you the inspiring figures who have contributed to Ballpoint’s success and helped shape the trajectory of my career as an entrepreneur, consultant, video editor, advertising director, and more, over the years. As a client or prospective client, you deserve to know where our knowledge base and experience originates. And this experience and knowledge that led to our success would not have been possible without the support and guidance of my mentors. I believe that professionals are the sum of their successes, failures, and close calls — and the mentors and inspiring figures in my life have certainly made a tremendous difference in helping me navigate all of the above!

I hope you enjoy this video series — as I take the time to casually discuss my history and some interesting stories about fascinating leaders, clients, and colleagues who have made a huge difference in my life.

MENTOR STORY #1: Marie Mayeur

My close friend and fellow entrepreneur Marie Mayeur inspires and uplifts everyone she comes in contact with. It was her influence and hard work with me through the foundational days of Ballpoint Communications Group that helped solidify our reputation in the community and our success as a team. Her entrepreneurial drive, great taste, and street-wise common sense are tremendous assets to me and the clients she serves.

MENTOR STORY #2: Fred Levin

Fred Levin needs no introduction, but fortunately for me, he introduced ME to tremendous opportunities throughout Pensacola and across the country. Fred is one the most infamous and respected trial attorneys in the nation, and is an inaugural member of the Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame. He took down big tobacco, nurtured a boxing champion, had the University of Florida College of Law named after him, and built a legal empire before ever even knowing my name! The fun has never stopped since our tremendously fortuitous meeting.

MENTOR STORY #3: Sunil Gupta, M.D.

Dr. Gupta is widely regarded as one of the nation’s foremost visionaries in the delivery of accessible, affordable, and quality eye care. His flagship organization, Retina Specialty Institute, serves thousands of patients across the Gulf Coast with 9 physicians and 22 locations. As a friend and business leader, he has never ceased to inspire me to think big and achieve my goals. I credit Dr. Gupta and Mona Amodeo, Ph.D. for introducing me to the retina field and inspiring me to serve clients in the eyecare space.

MENTOR STORY #4: Mona Amodeo, Ph.D.

Dr. Mona Amodeo is likely the most-awarded branding expert on the Gulf Coast, and I’m thankful that she hired me at her firm in my early days in Pensacola. Mona’s excellence, professionalism, grit, and knack for truly great storytelling inspires me every day to think big and deliver big for clients. I credit Mona for recalibrating my expectations years ago and for giving me a shot (along with many talented young marketing professionals), and a huge leg up into this business.
